When Dr. Leonard T. Fazio began construction on the dental office in Port Jefferson, N.Y., his singular vision for a technologically advanced, and environmentally safe facility was realized. In addition to being a warm and welcoming space, the finished product had to be a healthy environment.
Dr. Fazio searched carefully for a space which had NEVER been home to a dental office before. The primary reason for this was to avoid a potentially toxic space from years of exposure to dental toxins like mercury.
Once a suitable location was found, the existing space was COMPLETELY gutted. ALL of the interior building materials were removed as well as the flooring. Only the GREENEST of materials were used in the reconstruction. Low VOC paint was used to finish the space.
All common areas of the office are served by a central HVAC system which have been upgraded by installing Steril-Aire’s UVC Emitter® germicidal lamps. Using the proven power of germicidal UVC energy as an effective inactivation method for microorganisms, UVC Emitters improve HVAC environmental hygiene, making a vital contribution to indoor air quality.
Unlike most new dental offices today, the patient treatment rooms are completely separate from one another. This insures that the air quality in the rooms can be managed with air handling capabilities such as specialized filtration, and direct exhausting after each patient contact. This insures that when the next patient enters the room, whether it be for a cleaning, a filling, or a surgical procedure, there is no airborne cross-contamination lingering from the previous procedure. This includes, but is not limited to, airborne microorganisms and toxic dental materials, like mercury vapor.
Mercury vapor is created whenever a dentist drills on a tooth which already has a Mercury-amalgam filling in it. The result is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas which can permeate the entire office, rendering it a toxic environment to all. Our office was thoughtfully designed to eliminate this possibility.
